Illustration Friday FLAVOR

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

If Blue is a feeling and a color, it maybe could be a flavour... happy New Year everybody!

Le Petit Chaperon Rouge, aka Red Hot Riding Hood or Caperucita Roja, in a not very usual agressive pose. She seems to say:" Come on Wolvie, take the basket if you dare.."

After a xmas hard day's night, there's nothing better than a few well-deserved holidays.

Después de una dura noche repartiendo regalos... Santa se merece unas buenas vacaciones.

Illustration Friday IMAGINE

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

"Imagine all the people...Sharing all the world..." John Lennon. This is his word.
Happy Xmas everybody.
Felices Fiestas amigos! Y próspero 2006 a todos!

Celebrity Death

This is my new entry for Eurovision Art Challenge, this time the topic is "Celebrity Death". I was thinking about some kind of tragic formula 1 race, with three losers and only one winner: Mr. Death. Congratulations for Michael Schlingman, the winner of this topic
You can see the other entries here.

Sublime

I made this illo for an exhibition contest in UK. The theme was "Sublime", "inspired by recent imagery of the forces of nature and scenes of war, the organization wanted images of contemporary visions of the sublime."
Unfortunately the image was not chosen.
As you can see, it's very influenced by the great French artist Sempé.

A little personal homage to him.

Illustration Friday BLUE

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

Something strange... not so blue, isn't it? Try to scream "blue" if you're a red one.
I want to do something simple but very effective. Only red and white, even no ink.
It's the first illo I've done completely in a digital way (no pencil sketch this time).

BATMAN rough

A new quick-exercise. Sketch (very elaborate) with paper and pencil, all the color is done in photoshop.
I also use a little pig-headed-star wars toy (thanks to burger king) to get all the sahdows on the face. The illo was a little bigger, but I think this close-up is more powerful than the complete figure.

Illustration Friday SMALL

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

It's a radical simple-style illo. With classic Pink Panther's cartoons in mind. When you are a kid, a frozen look can make you feel like the smallest thing in the world...

Illustration Friday FREE

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.
I was thinking about some kind of Rapunzel's tower. Then a little firefly escapes and flies freely..
Not very original but, is there something more free than a firefly in the night?

So drunk...

This is my new entry for Eurovision Art Challenge, this time the topic is "Drunk".
I've not investigated very much this time...maybe some visits to the pub and a lot of looking back!
You can see the full-illo in the link.

The Stranger

More sketches from a film, this time, the classic Orson Welles' The Stranger (1946). With risky perspectives and impossible shots. Fantastic, as usual in Orson's films.

Illustration Friday STRENGTH

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

I've done this powerful arm with traditional art decó- classic-Russian posters in mind, but the result is more like a punk image...
I think it looks like more powerful than strength. But if you can wait a minute, I'll post a new one.
(It's done! you can see it just below)

Illustration Friday STRENGTH II

This is my new entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

I think this illo fits better with this week topic. Strength in pure condition. The man and the stone...
crack! uh, my back is complaining! Another watercolor/digital experiment.

One for the Zombie...

This is my first Attempt using some new watercolor brushes in Photoshop.
It's just a classic Zombie
panel, with open graves, fog and some kind of cemetery background.

I've tried to get some "atmosfear" with a limited (and warm) color palette,
It's only a quick sketch... In a future: more and better!

Thanks to
Zhuzhu for his fantastic preset brushes!

Faces and more faces

New quick sketches from everywhere (many of them from newspapers) Pencil on paper and then photoshop. I've just realized that there are a lot of smiling people in it!

Illustration Friday NIGHT

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

Another "dark" topic...
This one is some kind of classic kansas/smallville farm... Waiting for the dusk.

Cinema Paradiso

New sketches from a film.
This time, Cinema Paradiso (1989), written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore.
The film won the Oscar and has fantastic sense of wonder.

A filmmaker recalls his childhood, when he fell in love with the movies at his village's theater (in Italy) and formed a deep friendship with the theater's projectionist.

Tornatore give us a story about life, friendship, and the magic of the movies.
Salvatore Cascio as little Toto, is intimate, and cute... and everlasting character.
Ennio Morricone's music is absolutly subtle and fantastic.
These are some fast-sketched shots with very interesting compositions, the film is incredible as a whole, with no particular risk about strange shots or complex scenes, but this simplicity makes it better.

Salvatore
: "Who said that? Gary Cooper? James Stewart? Henry Fonda? Eh?

A clockwork Orange II

More sketches about Alex and his gang! (and a little shot)

A Clockwork Orange

New sketches from a film.
This time, the timeless and unclassifiable masterpiece: Stanley Kubrick's"A Clockwork Orange" (1971) (La Naranja Mecánica)
Based on the novel of the same title by Anthony Burgess.
Starring: Alex DeLarge (great Malcolm McDowell), some kind of anti-hero, a young man whose principal interests are ultra-violence and Beethoven.
You can find tons of terrific visual contents in this film. Every shot is a lesson on how composing a scene and
Copy and learn from all the shots you can (it's like a master course in "Kubrick's School") I'll post some of this shots, but now...a few quick sketches of Alex in action... (pencil on paper and a little color with multiply layers)

Illustration Friday REMOTE

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

Finally an encouraging topic! Great.

It represents the ultimate toy-robot, enormous and remote control...
Looking at this "cute" baby, you can probably see the next tyrant in the world (sadly there will be another one, and another one...)
Every one plays with his LEGOs like he want.. but this one is some kind of military-brain-baby.
He looks proud and conceited with his toy! (Can you imagine a Lego figure sooo big?)
For the robot I've used a real Lego figure inspired in Peter Cushing's Grand Moff Tarkin character in Star Wars.
My first idea was to draw a really huge army of that figures, but once I did the big one, I thought that only one smiley robot will be more iconic.
The little bastard came from my mind.

Mr. Hulot's Holiday

More sketches from a film.
This time, the French classic "Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot" (1953) (Mr. Hulot's Holiday)
by Jacques Tati, that brilliant filmmaker, genius and comedian.
Tati's style is mainly visual (He was originally a mime!) I've got the original French version with no subtitles, and it's incredible how I can understand (and enjoy) every minute in the movie, even I don't know any word in French language!
Great gags and a lot of visual info about composition.
And yes, it's made in "glorious" black and white (though the original master was filmed in color, it's distributed in b/w, in a tribute to silent films)
.

More Mr. Hulot sketches

More doodles for the same film.

You freak!

This is my new entry for Eurovision Art Challenge, this time the topic is "Freaks".
I've drawn the typical 30's fair, with wagons full of classic freaks.
I saw the film and take a lot of references on Tod Browning's Freaks, but finally did my own freak. Some Kind of big Pigheaded (cabezón). Big head, baby body, and a cute tail.
If you notice inside the wagon, you can see its delicate furniture! Yes, He's a cool fashioned freak.
Look at those other guys in front of the window pane....Who's really the freak?

Robin & Marian

Studies from the final fight on this fantastic (and nowadays a classic) movie.
Richard Lester's
Robin and Marian is maybe one of the latest appearances of Audrey Hepburn.
The film was first released in 1976, and Sean Connery looks older than now! (what a man!)

The final fight is a great scene to study and learn everything!
Two Old men fighting with two big and really heavy swords.
A must see!

Illustration Friday LOST

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.
The topic is "lost"..... I've tried to get my mind away of the tv series, but... finally I've done this kind of classic Crusoe-castaway in a mini-island.

The man who would be King

Some sketches from John Huston's "The man who would be king" another classic movie from 1975,
starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine. The story is taken by Kipling and tell the adventures of two British soldiers in the days of high Empire! And yes, Connery still looks older than know!

Illustration Friday FLOAT

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.

The big yellow ball should be the Sun, but it has turned into a dream inside a glass of some kind of tropical cocktail. Really floating!

Al Hirschfeld lives!

Al Hirschfeld :The one and only line master.

The swiss family Perelman, I've bought this book from Amazon, and It's terrific. I've got several books on Hirschfeld, but this one is full of illustrations (more than 40!) and with a lower price than the other usual Hirschfeld's books. Thanks to Drazen, I found the info about that book in his Blog .

It's a humor/essay book From writer S.J. Perelman, one of the best and most influential humorist of the American twentieth century. (He also wrote some screenplays for the Marx Brothers films) I'll try to read it (not only stare to it!) I think it's time to improve my English.

Some likns to spare the time and learn something about the master....
The New York Times has a page with the works he did, and here is an exhibition link. You can find some books about him here.

Line rules!

Can you imagine something fresher than a penguin in the South pole, looking how the snow falls?

Moleskine vs. Wacom

Today I've bought my first MOLESKINE sketchbook (the legendary notebook of Hemingway, Picasso, Chatwin.) It's like the Rolls Royce of the notebooks! You can buy one here or here. It's some kind of bohemian thing and very cool.
You can see Her in the image over (of course!) the Wacom tablet... Two ways of thinking, but no so far. Now, my Moleskine is empty-virgin, but tonight I'll start sketching!!!

I prefer sketching with classic paper-and-pencil. I love the sound of pencil scratching the paper. But inking... sometimes I make it in a digital medium (flash or illustrator) time is time, and here comes the wacom. And coloring.... Blessed Photoshop!
Only one reason: Ctrl+Z

Illustration Friday ESCAPE

This is my entry for Illustration Friday's challenge. Your comments are appreciated.
This topic reminds me the good old times, playing with my spectrum... Do you remember that game?
"the great escape"
A lot of afternoons in front of a monitor (no more than 12 colors) and those amazing cassettes...

24 Faces more

Another good exercise is chose 4 or 5 characters and try to "cartoonize" them . Keep it simple!

33 Faces

I've recently read on a interest concept.
ART GYM, mentioned by Mike Manley (in a great interview to Steve Rude) in Draw magazine #11.
It's like a routine, something you can do everyday to improve your skills, or before your fight with the white paper..(some kind of warming exercises)
I sometimes do something like that. Pick a newspaper or mag, look at your watch, and draw (in a crazy-speed way) all the faces you can find in the next 15 minutes.

Hola a todos!

Hola a todos, Hello!
Welcome to my new all-kind-of-drawing blog!
Thanks for the visit! I hope you enjoy it!
Please feel free to comment my work.

This is my first drawing! It's a mini-personal project, it will show the horoscope with simple people illustrating the sign to which they belong... Here it goes Libra.
